who and what counts in the art world?

The Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival challenges stereotypes about who and what counts in the art world.

Today's read

The Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival had its 6th annual event last month through which we learned about the Neurodivergent Artist Collective.

Before I fell into the world of disability arts, I was an admirer of outsider art alternatively called "art brut" or "raw art", a world of "untutored geniuses" who have historically been described by the art world as art created "outside the boundaries of culture". Today, the Vancouver Ousider Arts Festival continues to broaden this concept and aims to challenge steretypes about who and what counts in the art world.

With support from the Disability Alliance BC and Community Arts Council of Vancouver, the Neurodivergent Artist Collective presented their first exhibition at the festival and is presenting at the Gallery George in downtown Vancouver from November 15th to 26th.
