Carbon Movements

Tour-ready project by The Invisible Practice.

Carbon Movements

Keywords: Deaf arts, dance theatre, multidisciplinary art, tactile work

In Carbon Movements, everything shakes: the stage, the air, your preconceptions. With a unique tactile and visual score, this is as much a multidisciplinary work as an interactive experience—one that challenges us to reflect on control, connection, and the quiet knowledge just beneath the surface.

Carbon Movements is the current premiere production of The Invisible Practice, an Indigenous-informed Deaf arts collective. This is a Deaf-centric dance-theatre piece that runs 1 hour long. With a custom-built modular stage and miniature models integrated into audience seating, as well as a small and highly experienced tour team, this show promises to immerse each body in a rich and visceral world.

To date, this has been performed in Edmonton and Calgary, with ongoing plans to travel across the country in 2026 and 2027.

About the Artists

Carbon Movements is a piece created by and performed by the members of The Invisible Practice.

The collective includes: Connor Yuzwenko-Martin, ᐋᐧᐸᓇᒐᐦᑯᐢ (Crystal Wolfe), Jan McCarthy, Kayla Bradford-Sinasac, and Ebony R. Gooden.

The Invisible Practice is an Indigenous-informed Deaf arts collective living and creating in amiskwacîwâskahikan.

Currently, The Invisible Practice is developing a long-term strategic plan that will directly serve local Deaf artists. Based on their Intentional Gatherings community consultations 2024-25, they are in the process of cultivating programming, projects, and productions that centre Deaf experiences, stories, and creative talent.
