What is the Access Playbook?
The Access Playbook is an online, self-paced introductory program that walks arts presenters through six chapters. By the end of the program, participants will leave with:
- A stronger grounding in Disability arts history and context
- A clearer understanding of their organization’s access gaps
- Practical approaches for building relationships with Deaf and Disabled artists
- Strategies for more accessible marketing and audience outreach
- A framework for planning realistic access budgets
- A draft access plan tailored to their organization
It’s a structured process with practical tools, real-world examples, and supportive peer cohort spaces designed to help translate intention into sustainable, day-to-day practice within your organization.
While the learning materials are self-paced, participants join a small cohort of other arts presenters and gather for 3 live conversations to share questions, approaches, and reflections from their work.
Who's it for?
This program is for:
- Artistic Directors
- Presenters and Programmers
- Producers and General Managers
- Marketing and Communications leads
- Board members engaged in season planning
- Performing arts organizations ready to examine how access shows up in their systems
It’s especially useful for teams who:
- Want to program more Deaf and Disabled artists but don’t know where to start
- Have tried before and found it confusing or overwhelming
- Are looking for a structured, values-aligned framework
Who it's not for
This program may not be a good fit if:
- You’re looking for a quick checklist or compliance training
- You’re not currently in a decision-making role or influencing decisions
- Your organization isn’t open to making cultural shifts
- You’re seeking individual artist career development (this program is designed for presenters working within organizations)
Why now?
Across the country, we’re seeing growing interest in Deaf and Disability arts but many organizations are still stuck at the intention stage.
The gap isn’t usually desire. It’s resources, clarity, structure, and confidence.
The Access Playbook is designed to help address that.
