Disability specialist and advocate Dr. Shani Dhanda has launched a collaborative shared Google document for people with disabilities globally to learn about fair pay rates and share their experiences of exploitation in freelance work.

[Fair Dues 💰for Disabled PeopleThis shared document is designed to empower disabled people by making pay rates clear and fair. It’s a space where people can share how much they charge or have been paid anonymously, helping each other understand their worth better. Add jobs you have been unpaid or paid for from any time period.![](https://ssl.gstatic.com/docs/spreadsheets/spreadsheets_2023q4.ico)Google Docs![](https://lh7-us.googleusercontent.com/docs/AHkbwyK1fE5M7cM47lbW4G4ko82-tCiCzRFgzb0Y88l-Tru9QhygLt_ekOH8pd7KHHrTGiiuPjBvLmFXrdIYRYUzTRKa882GeEKEpd8EasVih5eV4v8=w1200-h630-p)](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tjg5kctjMJipUNrMIUX6JBoPC7KtFynk41yLL1HI0tk/edit?ref=creativeconnector.art#gid=978609264)

Here is an introduction from Shani's IG feed that describes her motivation in starting this document.

> Disabled people are twice as likely to be unemployed and face a staggering disability pay gap. Introducing Fair Dues, a collaborative resource where disabled people who work freelance, on a personal basis, or self-employed can anonymously share their experiences and rates of pay.

> I sincerely hope it empowers disabled people to recognise their value and confidently ask for it.

> Expecting disabled people to work for free isn't just a disservice; it perpetuates inequality within the disability community. Asking people to work for free, especially when it's their primary income source, is a subtle yet easily overlooked form of exploitation.

> Ironically, these requests often come from events or organizations claiming to champion diversity and inclusion, sending conflicting messages.

Shani Dhanda is an award-winning disability specialist, listed as one of the UK's most influential disabled people. As a keynote speaker and practitioner for inclusion across business, government, non-profit, and wider society, Shani helps organizations break barriers and integrate inclusion into their business frameworks.
